The 53rd Annual Columbus Day Regatta Scheduled for October 6–7, 2007

The annual Columbus Day Regatta, Florida’s largest sporting event afloat, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 6–7, 2007, in the waters of Biscayne Bay. The Regatta, now in its 53rd year, attracts over 100 racers from around the world for two days of challenging and friendly racing.

First held in 1954, the Columbus Day Regatta was run with 24 boats, and was originally conceived as a commemoration of a small boat cruise made in 1492, as the explorer Christopher Columbus embarked on the first of his four sea journeys.

The Regatta is open to all sailors. Deadline for entries is Sunday 23 September 2007 at 7:00 pm. (Late entries will be accepted until Saturday 29 September, 2007 at 4:00 pm.) Entry Forms should be mailed (or delivered) to: Columbus Day Regatta, c/o Coral Reef Yacht Club, 2484 South Bayshore Drive, Miami FL 33133.

Registration packets with each participant’s race information will be distributed in Ft Lauderdale at the Lauderdale Yacht Club on Thursday, 04 October, from 7:00–9:00 a.m. and 4:00–6:00 p.m. Packets can be picked up in Miami at the Coral Reef Yacht club on Thursday, 04 October, from 4:00–8:00 p.m., and again on Friday, 05 October, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. Packets not picked up by 8:00 p.m. Friday evening will be left with Security at the entrance to CRYC. The Skippers Meeting will be held at the Coral Reef Yacht Club on Friday, 05 October, at 7:00 p.m.

Awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Saturday, 13 October, at the Coral Reef Yacht Club, beginning at 7:00 pm. Corporate sponsor Goslings will feature their Black Seal® and Gold Rums at both the Skippers meeting and the awards ceremony. A family business for nearly two centuries, Gosling’s is Bermuda’s oldest business house, and is the largest exporter of a Bermuda-made product.

Coconut Grove-based artist AnnaMaria Windisch-Hunt has designed the poster for the 53rd Annual Columbus Day Regatta. A limited number of commemorative Columbus Day Regatta 2007 t-shirts, imprinted with this year's artwork, are available for purchase, either at the various Regatta events, or on the Columbus Day Regatta’s website at www.columbusdayregatta.net.
